Als het water was
wat je had gedaan, waar je familie
je van doordrongen had
was dit misschien het antwoord.
Het hoefde niet begrijpelijk (er waren tabellen voor)
maar de grijze nauwelijks zichtbare lucht
was te klein, te benauwd om door te praten.
Valt er van die mist iets te maken dat bestaat?
‘Ze hebben me gevraagd de hele familie uit te leggen
maar ik bleef steken bij de zenuwen van mijn vader
de scherpe nagels van mijn moeder
hoofden die geen lucht nodig hadden.
Ik werd niet geloofd om mijn gewicht
of om mijn kapotte vingers.
Ik had de leeftijd waarop boeken tegen werken
en de televisie niets verduidelijkt.
Kon de vrolijke drukte mij helpen
het zoveel zachtere humeur na het ongeval?
Is het sindsdien dat mijn hoofd op de muur wil schrijven?
Zoveel bloed en koorts verlangen ze niet
maar ik heb alleen mijn lichaam
om iets uit te leggen.’

Ze is de eerste bekerprinses van de hoofdstad.
Vermeerderd door haar eigen geur, haar eigen ver dragend geschreeuw
ook de grootste.
Ze verplaatst haar fiets zo dat de zon haar nooit betrappen zal
op omgang met ademloze voorbijgangers.
Plastic bekers zijn een goede verdediging.
Plastic zakken missen talent en ziel en geen kan haar ter zijde staan
haar zacht in slaap wiegen en sussen
en fluisteren zodat geluid niet langer nodig is
om het grasveld dat haar stem bestrijkt tot rust te manen:
‘Overal is namelijk onrust en opgehitst
door kantoormannen in groepjes en vrouwen met boodschappen
die zo kijken en niet kijken
in mijn mond willen zwijgen
pas op de bekers en de kindjes
blijf af.
Er is een heel mooi poppetje waarmee niets aan de hand is
wat ik niet vast mag houden
wat slaat en joelt zodra het haar raakt die wil lachen en sussen.
Kijk maar weer de duiven.
Rust is verjaagd en er zijn nog meer bekers nodig
zoals van die mooie milkshake en cappuccino om mee te nemen.
Alles komt goed, maar pas op dat de dekseltjes niet bijten
niet het poppetje
ook.’

Geen keus hadden we.
De kinderen moesten bloemen zien.
Hoe konden ze anders leren wat kleur was?
Alleen de fascisten hadden boeketten
of de joden, de christenen, de mohammedanen
weet ik veel.
Ook voor ons was het niet eenvoudig.
Ouders hebben het niet overleefd.
Wij verkochten dubbele organen, ongewassen
seks en zweepslagen, het uitdrukken
van sigaretten op een zachtroze huid.
Het kon niet eenvoudig – een baan vinden
fluiten en straatwaarde roepen.
Hij kon de huisbaas zijn, de baas zonder meer.
De artsen sympathiseerden met ons
allemaal patiënten, zeiden zij
een spuitje, een kompres, veel pillen.
We ploegden de botten opnieuw naar boven
zaaiden wintertarwe, oogsten brood en fruit
baden anderen, dreigende zangkoren, dood.
Er zijn geen fascisten meer.
Zijn er ook geen bloemen meer?
Er zijn bussen, de wegen zijn geruimd
kinderen die opschriften lezen
vluchten niet.

Als er eten komt dan gaan ze kauwen.
Het is bijna niet te zien
dat de puree vlees geworden is
dat vrolijkheid van bloemkool afstamt.
Lekker zijn de kleine rondvliegende brokjes
die helaas net ontsnappen.
Kees heeft de langste armen
maar geen honger
en zijn ogen willen er niet aan. Dan maar
smakken om te wachten tot het neerdaalt.
Waar het modelverblijf scheurt
zijn zacht wiegende hoofden
die buiten hun kraagjes treden
en de bloemen in hun vesten voeden.
Daarboven kloppen zorgzame sturende
broeders en zusters zich recht in hun schorten
schikken donkere warme lichamen
rond koud vel.
Saus belooft niks
maar tussen het wit rolt en borrelt
iedere denkbare gezegende garnering.
Bloemen staan tevreden in hun schoongewassen
stijve tijd, pijn loopt voor de ramen langs
met hondjes en een volle tas.

Geld stroomt hier dik over de keien
ongeacht de sneeuw
en de champagnejurken van die uitgevijlde vrouwen.
Het is een goede gedachte af te rekenen
in hard zwetende zal ik even liefje, mokkel, hoer.
Waar zijn hun vaders en zonen
waar hun hand op het hart?
Er gaat geen trots geen stilte meer om.
Er is geen weg terug, zegt mijn vader
als ik aan hem denk
als een vader die ik zou willen spreken.
Moeten wij elkaar niet leren?
Ik wil geloven dat
we samen een verhaal inslaan
dat we onze tranen in de inkt laten vallen
en zien alsof het net geschreven is zo waar.
Bij iedere laatste adem komt de wereld dichterbij
die helpt de wereld te verlaten
zelfs in mij rokend en dansend slaapt
mijn vader opgetogen
en zorgelijk.

Ik kan hem volgen, bereiken.
Hij staat daar
Hij heeft een grote uitgestoken
rondzwervende hand.
Net als hij werd worden
de resten verbranden, danken, rust nemen
het bloed uit de kleren wassen.
Zo snel mogelijk de andere huizen uitroeien
met eigen lichaam.

Het is de zomer niet en niet het weer.
Nieuws en krant beweren dat vet
eten en drukke muziek
slagkracht uit de skeletten slopen.
Een chemische reactie, afbraak
die als wetten woekert en tenslotte
snijdt. De politiek doet weer eens niets.
Wat ze zeggen loopt langs alle kanten weg.
Geen plek
geen rust, zelfs in voor tv genoten sporten
scheuren krachtige families.
Kan ons redden die tot schoonheid bekeerde
formule? Raakt iemand de bal nog wel eens
als het moet?
Ik roep steeds harder om dit laatste hoekje
te verwarmen, maar het wordt niet makkelijk.
Helikopters boven de velden, kinderen
niet langer goed in hun hoofd
hoofd kwijt en niets aan te wijzen meer
dat blijft staan en als een kacheltje werkt.
Trek iets open. Zet het vuur aan
onder overtollig vet. Kom eens huilen
bij een goed lied om het beter te maken.
