Zes gedichten
Bij een vijfde druk
Een vijfde druk, het lijkt er wel op
of dit een boekje geworden is dat je samen met
je eerste pakje kondooms aan je lief geeft.
Ik heb het allemaal nooit nieuw-realisme
gevonden, maar jong-realisme:
pogingen om op mijn 25 eindelijk eens te zijn
wat ik op mijn 19 nooit was:

De weemoed was te snijden toen,
daar kon je jaarlijks mee deelnemen
aan het Wereldkampioenschap Verdriet.
‘Amour Perdue’ zong Adamo toen,
en wij maar meebrullen, zoals je
‘Ajax wint de wereldcup’ zingt.
Maar ik was wel alleen

tot verliezen in staat, elke avond weer een
dag verloren, elke nacht weer een avond,
elke morgen weer een vrouw. Eén keer,
na de ontmoeting met Fréderique,
vond ik zelfs dat ik mezelf verloren had.
Waar heb ik in godsnaam achteraf nog ooit
zoiets als een mezelf bij elkaar gezien,
tenzij in de skriptie van een meisje van 21
dat me in haar kommentaren ‘Herman’ noemt
en promoveerde over de slipjes in het werk van-?

Geluk
Geluk is ineens, zaterdagmiddag in de trein
naar Amsterdam, weten Dat Het Niet Voor Jou Is Weggelegd.
En daar hoedanook erg rustig van zijn.
Goed, dat weten we dan, dat hoeft niet meer gezegd.
Er vallen tenslotte nog andere dingen te beleven.
We gaan naar Amsterdam kijken, en niet naar elkaar.
En er is een voorzichtig-zijn met wat je even
mag hebben, hooguit voor een paar jaar.
Zoiets als elke dag opnieuw weer honger krijgen,
zoiets als elke keer met jou weer hijgen
en hijgen en hijgen. En dan is het voorbij.
En wie weet, nooit gebeurd. Dan blijven ik en jij.
Geluk is in 76 nog dingen willen schrijven
als ‘jouw ogen en hun sterrelingse pracht’.
Godgod, nee zeg. Maar het is koud. En ik wil blijven
bij jou. Omwille van de nacht.

Poëzie
Niet Alice in Wonderland,
maar Alice net terug: is dit weer
een nieuw wonderland? Nee, dit is gewoon,
na lange afwezigheid, de werkelijkheid.
Was ook de politiek maar zo, dit
in de realiteit aankomen als in een
ouwe fermette, en zeggen: dit is een
dragende muur, die laten we staan,
die en die muren moeten weg, daar
maken we grote ruimtes van.

Zij en hij
Zij houdt moedig haar vrolijkheid op
en haar borsten.
Zij heeft een humeur
als een stevige beha.
Ook hij is opgetrokken
uit veel vrolijk Hahaha.
Maar zijn drift zit al jaren
achter tralies: strepen
van zijn pijama.

Met droefheid nemen wij kennis
Ze hadden een deken over hem gelegd,
ook over het hoofdje. Ik deed de deken
weg. Daar had hij altijd al
een hekel aan.
Het was géén afschuwelijk gezicht.
Eén oogje was open, daaraan
zag ik dat hij dood was.

Helemààl gelukkig kan natuurlijk nooit.
Gisteren nog droomde ik dat ik woonde
in een kast van een huis met een riante
vrouw. Toen ik ontwaakte
bleek het nog waar ook. Maar ik had wel
tandpijn.
Daar staat tegenover dat helemaal ongelukkig
evenmin kan. Je kan maar met één Rolls Royce
tegelijk rijden, zei John Lennon al. Maar
je kan normaal gezien ook maar één vrouw
tegelijk verliezen. Jou bijvoorbeeld.
Een happy end is er alleszins niet bij.
Ik leef nu al 32 jaar, maar het gaat
gewoon door, en als ik al eens vrij
is er niemand die het beeld bevriest
en daar ‘the end’ boven projekteert.
Alles is voorlopig. Zelfs als ik sterf
Zal je wel zien dat ik niet genoeg adem meer heb
voor mijn laatste woorden (‘Über allen Gipfeln
ist Ruh’) zodat iedereen het met mijn
voorlaatste zal moeten stellen (‘Geef me de bedpan eens, Marie’.)
